I Just Got Accosted | No more cigarettes!

What an absolutely shocking experience. I was walking down Townsend right at the CalTrain station at 4th. I was in front of the WalGreen’s, literally 10 feet away from the door. As I was walking toward the door, a tall male Caucasian with big, not-so-brushed-hair, a baseball cap and outstretched arms approached me. I tried [...]

August 6, 2007: You done good, Ma!

You done good Ma. I’m changing the world, if only on a “small” scale right now (over 1030 students so far and growing). I have done the thing you and dad advised against — when I was young I wanted to be both an engineer and a teacher and unintentionally, I have become both. I [...]

June 23: Putting out at O’Hare

On my way to Liz and Devin’s wedding. Sean will be here soon. I’m wearing the shirt the fire safety team wore for the 2007 Temple of Poi Fire Dancing Expo… well, modified a little. Should I put beads on it and make it really silly? Tamale said she won’t be seen with me wearing [...]

3 Gigs in One Day

But only one makeup job. And yes, that necklace is painted on. It makes hooping so much easier and I had to hoop at all 3 gigs.

Sunset on the Beach

In retrospect, I suppose it would have made more sense to put this word of the day on my head the day we were making the hoops. Alas, that did not happen. Lexi had her new hairdo going on with the awesome dye job Matthew and his assistant did for her — To be honest, [...]

Fearlessness

Since I’ve explored NLP, it seemed to me the word “fearless” was not nearly as powerful as courage. I’m not sure what inspired the word in particular today — perhaps it was because we were going to see the sharks at the aquarium. Of course, they weren’t nearly as entertaining as the penguin feeding was. [...]

Hoop Day

Today was a stay at home sort of day. We made hoops and then I gave the girls a hoop lesson. Later in the day we had a different sort of experience, introducing my nieces to raw food at Gratitude Cafe. And then we went on a car tour of the city where we got [...]

Burning down the house

My friends Jason and Addrianna had their home burn down. Egads. I suppose that is one way to plunge yourself into dis-identification with your stuff. I created this image to honor them, that they would rise from the ashes… reborn.

What do you want to be when You grow up?

Other than my own job, I am not certain I could imagine a cooler job than the one Erin Glover has. She is the CEO and Founder of FirePixie Entertainment, a fabulous entertainment company which specializes in children’s parties. Which means people pay Erin and other similarly talented actors, to attend their Children’s parties and [...]

Cultivate

In writing the materials for the workshop, Cultivate, I found I had many things to share with poi students regarding building a lasting poi practice for themselves. After spending an afternoon writing an 8 page handout for the class and then discussing the workshop with students, I decided to write a book on creating a [...]

Life

The lushness of flowers blooming in the spring and summer reminds me of the gift of life and how amazing the spirit of growth is. It is especially powerful with fragrant flowers, like jasmine, freesia and stargazer lilies. I am particularly fond of the stargazer lily because lily’s last a long time from the date [...]

Jedi Master Yoda

I’d have to say, if I were going to subscribe to a faith that already existed, it would have to be the force. Flow for me is what I understand the force to be, so it really makes sense to me. Great Jedi Master Yoda said many inspirational things, including this one: Do or do [...]

RelationDancing

My friend Mark wrote a book on intimacy called RelationDancing: Consciously Creating What You Really Want in Your Relating. The book includes a section about Mark’s Game For Intimacy, which was an amazing gift for me when I first learned of it. RelationDancing describes a method of relating that makes intimacy and connection between people [...]
